Coach Revalidation Changes Update
A key objective of the coaching department is to put learning at the heart of coaching and to have in place a system that encourages coaches to grow and develop their knowledge and skills. To help achieve this objective, we introduced a completely revised system linked to continuous personal development opportunities for all levels of coach in January 2013.
This system allows coaches to have more autonomy over their earning and development and look beyond what they already do to impact positively on their coaching environment. Coaches can now choose from a range of modules and subjects to plan and manage their relevant learning opportunities over an extended period.
Based on feedback from coaches who participated in the programme during 2013, we have decided to make
minor changes to the revalidation requirements. These changes have been approved by the British Judo Board of
Directors and will be implemented with immediate effect. The changes are as follows:
- The terms ‘generic’ and ‘specific’ have been removed – all revalidation events are now weighted the same for revalidation purposes.
- The number of revalidation events has been reduced to three (3) for BJA Level 2 and BJA Level 3 Coaches. The only specification is that it must be three (3) different types of revalidation event.
- These events can be done at any time during the 3-year revalidation period (i.e. it is not necessary to do one event every year).
- BJA Level 1 Coaches
The revalidation period for BJA Level 1 coaches is three (3) years. During the revalidation period participation in three (3) different types of revalidation event or 1 National Technical Conference is required for revalidation purposes. - BJA Level 2 Coaches
The revalidation period for BJA Level 2 coaches is three (3) years. During the revalidation period participation in three (3) different types of revalidation event (reduced from 4) or 1 National Technical Conference is required for revalidation purposes. - BJA Level 3 Coaches
The revalidation period for BJA Level 3 coaches is six (6) years. During the revalidation period participation in three (3) different types of revalidation event (reduced from 6) or 1 National Technical Conference is required for revalidation purposes.
