Pudsey Bear visited Kingsley School’s dojo as part of a BBC Children In Need promotion.

Head judo coach Simon Ward said: “I managed to get the organiser to visit the dojo and asked our judo team from the school to put on a 10 minute Uchi Komi practise.

I also agreed to be thrown by Pudsey. It was a great test as Pudsey learnt to move well before throwing me during his final practise. We had a mix of children on the mat from year three to sixth form students. It was all a bit of fun and created a nice little opportunity for promotion.”

One of the students Louis Hughes said: “I didn’t realise Pudsey was as strong and that he would be able to drop Mr Ward like that!”.

Millie Wivell added: “Pudsey throwing Mr Ward to the ground was so cool!”.

Jersey Ledger commented: “It is very unusual to have someone special like Pudsey at our judo session.”.

Meanwhile, in Scotland, Kim Renicks championed a new initiative to collect funds for Children in Need.

The Coatbridge judo star helped launch the “Best Assembly Ever’ project in which youngsters raise money for the appeal and then have their achievements celebrated at school during the week of the show on Friday 14 November.

She joined Mascot Pudsey at Lenzie Moss Primary in East Dunbartonshire to launch the project. Kimberley said: “I have really fond memories of my own school assemblies. I’m a big supporter of Children in Need. It was really good to go back to school and be part of the Best Assembly Ever.

It was hugely inspiring to meet the pupils and hear about their tremendous fundraising efforts. I hope pupils across Scotland will help raise money for disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.”
