After celebrating their first anniversary of opening in January, Hoshi Judo club, Plymouth, members competed at the Devon Closed at Kingsbridge last month, entering five players into the competition and came home with four county champions and a bronze medallist.

Harry Porter, 11, bettered his bronze from last year by taking gold and the champion title for his weight group, and his younger sister Ellie Porter, 8, came away with a bronze after having the hardest and longest fights of the day.

Molly P, 11, was on fine form and won her pool, winning the gold medal and became Devon champion.

Meanwhile, just three months after taking up Judo, Harley Williams, 11, added the Devon championship title to her previous gold and bronze medals.

Club coach and chairman, Justin Allen was delighted with the result saying “I am so pleased with the results, after only a year of forming the club we have come away with four Devon champions. We can now look forward to May and the BJC Nationals, this is where Molly intends to defend her title from last year”

Hoshi Judo Club is based at the Kitto center in Honicknowle Lane, Plymouth and runs Friday evening sessions for children aged between 5-15 at 7-8pm and a senior class from 8-9.
