Wymeswold-based CSS Judo Club celebrated World Judo Day by throwing a huge birthday party in honor of Jigoro Kano – the founding father of the sport. The club, which straddles the Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire border, entered into the party spirit by inviting more than 25 children to get involved in fun judo games.

The club opened two months ago and since then the junior class has been going from strength to strength. Some of the youngsters will even be ready for gradings at the end of November, according to head coach and club founder Ian Cox.

Nine year old Olivia Stevens has been doing judo since August like many of her friends at the club.

She said: “I like judo so I can get fit and learn something new I also feel I have learnt so much so far.”

The club is looking for new members to join their family. They are particularly looking grow their senior mat.

CSS is based on the Wymeswold Industrial Estate and meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 18:30 and 19:30.

Adult sessions take place between 19:30 and 20:30 on Tuesdays. There is a free beginners session for adults on Friday between 20:30 and 21:30.

The club will be starting an open randori session in November on Saturdays between 10:00 – 12:00.
