Bronze for Jenman in Porec
Charlotte Jenman lived up to her 3rd seeding as the young Brit won bronze on day 2 of the European Cadet Championships.
Charlotte Jenman won her Pool after defeating Maria Tsapara (GRE), Amina Crncalo (BIH) and Anna Tieliegina (UKR).
Jenman faced Luciana Catana (ROU) in a lengthy Semi-Final contest that lasted over 12 minutes. Jenman was unfortunately awarded a 3rd shido, handing victory to Catana. Defeat progressed Jenman to the bronze medal contest to face number 1 seed Michela Terranova (ITA).
With nothing between the two judoka, the contest entered Golden Score where Jenman capitalised on a Terranova error to register a waza-ari score and win the bronze medal.
It was a busy day with 9 GB Judoka in total competing in Porec.
Olivia Delahunty defeated Dominika Kuzelova (CZE) and Adriana Torres (POR) in her opening two contests in the -63kg category. Defeat to 3rd seed Emily Starzer (AUT) progressed Delahunty to the Repechage where she faced Stefania Pede (ITA). Unfortunately, Delahunty was disqualified from the contest for being judged to have thrown against a straight arm.
Luke Davies dominated his Pool, defeating Maxim Tugulea (ROU) and Stevan Nikcevic (MNE) to set up a quarter-final contest against Ali Hajizda (AZE). Davies continued to dominate the quarter-final contest but was caught for ippon score in Golden Score.
Davies progressed to the Repechage where he faced Dimitrije Savic (BIH) but was caught and thrown for ippon score in the opening exchanges.
Also competing in the -73kg category was Ben Levy who progressed through his Round 2 contest courtesy of a waza-ari score in Golden Score against Ivanko Djinkic (BIH) after an opening-round bye. Defeat to Mihajlo Simin (SRB) in Round 3 meant Levy had a nervous wait to see if he would progress to the Repechage. Simin went on to win his Quarter-Final meaning Levy progressed to the Repechage where he was defeated by Yaniv Agronov (ISR).
Maddie Birri (-52kg) had an opening-round bye before defeating Sara Osmani (KOS) before facing top seed Michela Terranova (ITA). Terranova then lost her Quarter-Final contest meaning Birri missed out on a place in the Repechage.
Kylan Aylward and Irakli Goginashvili both had opening-round bye’s in the -66kg category. Goginashvili, was defeated by 5th seed Abil Yusubov (AZE) whilst Aylward was defeated by Abdullah Turgutlu (TUR).
In the -57kg category, Chloe Link and Sunny Doig were both defeated in their opening-round contests against Jelena Nisavic (SRB) and Nika Tomc (SLO) respectively
