British Minors Competition: Important Update

Returning to the British Judo events calendar after a three-year pandemic interruption, The British Judo Association (BJA) are delighted to see the return of the British Minors competition, taking place in Surrey on a newly arranged date.

We have recently been informed that Surrey Sports Park has scheduled maintenance and venue refurbishment work being carried out next month, which means the competition will now take place on a slightly delayed date of 1st October 2022.

The highly anticipated event will see many judoka enthusiastic and excited to return to the mat to once again enjoy the competitive aspect of judo however, the closure of clubs during the pandemic has led to the rising number of judokas who no longer meet the minimum entry requirement for the British Minors competition.

To tackle this challenge, the BJA has consulted with both the hosts, insurers and members of the Judo Commission to make the decision to amend the minimum entry grade from 7thMon down to 4th Mon.

The BJA continues to be committed and passionate about sport development for judoka of all ages and abilities. The BJA hopes that the entry requirement changes will reignite the drive for young judoka to participate in competitive judo, whilst also providing competition opportunities to as many judoka within the Minors cohort as possible.

As with every event, the safety of all entrants is paramount to the BJA and the Association strongly advises that all entrants participate in at least two competitions prior, to ensure that competitors are fit and ready for this event.

The BJA very much look forward to seeing the return of this event and welcoming back the judo community as we see the number of events on the judo calendar grow once again.

Entries are still being accepted with the entry window now being extended to 23rd September. Entries received after this date will not be submitted to the competition.

Please read the event outlines prior to completing the application form.
