British Kata Championships 2022
The British Kata Championships will take place for the first time since the pandemic on September 25th at Samurai Judo Club in Kidderminster.
The last time the event was held, in 2019, there was a record high entry, three times the entry at the previous 2018 event, and organisers are hoping to match those numbers again. There is a new U16 Ju-no-kata category, with a trophy kindly sponsored by Dave Horton-Jones, to add to the U16 Nage-no-kata and Katame-no-kata, whilst the adults have Nage-no-kata, Katame-no-kata, Ju-no-kata, Kime-no-kata, Gonosen-no-kata and Kodokan Goshin-jutsu categories.
The event is run in a very different way to years ago, with the emphasis on welcoming pairs new to kata competition (and even new to kata) and becoming very much a development event where everybody will get feedback and learn from the day. Already. there are a number of first-time kata entrants in both the adult and U16 sections.
