Brandon Cowton – Ryedale Judo
At British Judo we are delighted to continue to share the achievements made in a fantastic community.
We reached out to Ryedale Judo to learn more about Brandon Cowton’s recent award.
Brandon Cowton, Lead Coach at Ryedale Judo, was recently recognised for his contributions to the local community and was presented with the Pickering Town Council 2022 Volunteer Service Award for volunteering to work with young people.
Over the last few years, Brandon has dedicated his time to support not only Ryedale Judo Club but also Scarborough Judo Club sharing his experience and supporting judoka as a lead coach. This support was crucial to the clubs throughout the pandemic and allowing members to stay active through free online sessions and outdoor sessions.
Brandon is known for his kindness and for always being willing to support those around him when they need it, he shared what the recognition means to him.
“I run two junior sessions per week and three seniors’ sessions per week between the two judo clubs. For me it is just nice to receive some recognition for the hard work put into both of the judo clubs to have kept them going during the pandemic and the return after.”
Michael Leng, 5th Dan, Chairman at Ryedale Judo added what the award means to the club as a whole also highlighting the invaluable support Brandon provides.
“Any recognition to Brandon from anywhere means so much to us as a club; we are a small rural club who without the support of Brandon and the rest of the team here at Ryedale and Scarborough would have in no doubt have had to close our clubs! His sheer grit and determination has kept our clubs open and fighting! He continues to instil what he has learnt from his Coaches for the last 13/14 years.”
