Black Country school names gym after Elvis Gordon
British Judo legend Elvis Gordon will always be remembered by those whose lives he touched and now his name will live on at the Black Country school where he worked as a caretaker.
A new gym at Moseley Park Academy in Bilston has been named after the former European champion who lost his brave battle against cancer last year.
TeamGB’s London 2012 Olympian Kelly Edwards was on hand to open the gym alongside British Judo Chairman Kerrith Brown and Dennis Stewart who were both members of the all-conquering Wolverhampton Judo Club with Mr Gordon.
Kelly Edwards said: “Elvis was a sporting legend and you must draw inspiration from him every time you use this centre.”
In a glittering career the hugely-admired heavyweight won three European medals and took silver at the 1987 World Championships before returning after a 16-year break to win silver at the British Masters in 2009.
