A nine-strong British team were in action in Porec, Croatia over the weekend at the Junior European Championships.

With no Junior World’s in 2012 due to it being an Olympic year, the three-day showpiece become the biggest event on the circuit for our British juniors.

2011 Junior European silver medallist Max Stewart injured his hand at the Welsh Open a week earlier and was forced to withdraw. 

SKK Judo Club’s Amy Livesey produced Britain’s best result as she won two fights before losing both her quarter-final to the hosts’ eventual silver medallist Barbara Matic and her subsequent bout in the repechage to finish in seventh-place.

Welshman Connor Ireland defeated Dominik Rehacek with a stunning uchi-mata before losing out to Portugal’s Luis Mendes.

Ealing Judo Club’s Nekoda Davis overcome Busra Ozdek of surprise package Turkey by ippon but was edged out in her second contest against Tess Van T Westende of the Netherlands.

Stratford Judo Kwai’s Hayley Willis also won one and lost one with victory coming against Romanian Denisa Ungureanu and defeat at the hands of Turkey’s eventual gold medallist Dilara Lokmanheim.

Sam Hall, Conall McGregor, Lucas Rowe, Jemima Duxberry and Jade Lewis all lost their opening bouts. 

Meanwhile, at the HIKU European Cup in Finland, Gregg Varey took silver while Jodie Mullen won bronze and Caroline Kinnane clinched gold. Frazer Chamberlain finished in ninth-place while Andy Burns took fifth-place.
