The St Helens judoka has enjoyed the transition from Junior to Senior judo in 2016. The 2015 Junior European champion had already medalled at senior level before this year with a bronze at the Lisbon European Open and she added to that tally in Tallinn.
Jennifer Wichers
Age: 25
Best Result(s): Gold 2016 Lisbon European Open, Lisbon, Portugal
Wichers had pedigree at this level with a number of Continetal Open medals including golds at Sofia, Lisbon and Tallinn. With Anicka Van Emden and Juul Franssen ahead of her in the pecking order, she will hope to use Glasgow as a stepping stone up the rankings.
Jemima Yeats-Brown
Age: 21
Best Result: Bronze 2014 Junior World Championships, Ft Lauderdale, USA/Silver 2016 Tallin European Open, Tallin, Estonia
Jemima Yeats-Brown is always one to watch when she steps on the mat with an all-action, dynamic style of judo. After a good career at Juniors in -63kg she has moved up to -70kg in 2016 and has already medalled twice at European Open level since the transition.
Sanne Van Dijke
Age: 21
Best Result: Gold 2014 Junior European Championships, Budapest, Hungary/Bronze 2015 Dusseldorf Grand Prix, Dusseldorf, Germany
Another talented youngster with an impressive junior pedigree, Van Dijke will be chasing current World No.1 Kim Polling over the next four years and with a Grand Prix medal to her name already she will be going for gold in Glasgow.
Sebastian Nadal
Age: 28
Best Result: Bronze 2015 Senior British Championships, Sheffield, England
Nadal will be one of the oldest judoka in the British team and the Glasgow European Open will be the biggest competition of his career to date. Nadal has competed on home soil in an international event before when he came fifth at the London European Cup last year.
Dominic Ressel
Age: 22
Best Result: Bronze 2015 Baku Grand Slam, Baku, Azerbaijan; Bronze 2016 Dusseldorf Grand Prix, Dusseldorf, Germany
Ressel will be the top seeded -81kg judoka in Glasgow and with Grand Slam and Grand Prix medals to his name he will be confident of performing at the Emirates Arena. The German fighter is also a former European Under-23 and World Junior bronze medallist.
The 2016 Glasgow European Judo Open on 15th October 2016 at the Emirates Arena, Glasgow will be the British public’s first chance to watch some international judo after the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
