Marc Preston Added to British Judo Board
British Judo are pleased to announce that Marc Preston will be joining the British Judo Board of Directors, replacing Graham Campbell as the JudoScotland Representative.
Graham has represented JudoScotland on the Board for the past 7 years and will shortly retire his position, with Marc due to commence his role from 1st November 2024.
Marc has acted as JudoScotland’s interim Chair for the past two years before officially being elected as Chair in 2022, with a tenure period that will conclude at JudoScotland’s AGM in 2026.
His wealth of knowledge and experiences have been pivotal in shaping and delivering JudoScotland’s Strategy “JudoForAll” 2023-2027.
During his time as Chair, Marc has led the JudoScotland Board to undertake a thorough review of the Articles of Association, ensuring best practice in alignment with the UK Sport Code of Governance.
Away from JudoScotland, Marc is the founder of Destination Judo, a schools-based initiative running judo sessions for children between the ages of 5-16 years old, whilst on the mat, he is a former full-time judoka whose career ended prematurely following a serious knee injury. He was a former British number one at the -65kg category for a number of years with a medal haul that included a 1990 Commonwealth Games Silver medal, World Cup and World Masters medals.
On his appointment to the Board, Marc said: “I am absolutely delighted to become JudoScotland’s British Judo Board representative. I am looking forward to working very closely with my new Board and colleagues and for exciting times ahead. I’d like to thank Graham Campbell for all of his hard work and dedication to the British Judo Board over the years.”
British Judo Chair Gerry Gualtieri commended Graham for his service to the Board and welcomed Marc to the team: “I’d like to thank Graham for his valued contribution to the board and welcome Marc to his new Board position. Marc will bring a huge amount of value, with his experience as a GB judoka, a coach, a club operator and experience as Chair of Judo Scotland. I look forward to working with Marc as we enter our next Olympic cycle and am sure he will be a great addition to the board.”
We are looking forward to officially welcoming Marc onto the Board at the next Board meeting on Friday 1st November.
