The British Championships got off to a great start as 37 national champions were crowned at the EIS, Sheffield.

Cadet Boys

Luke Hunter (Jidel Judo) took gold in the -42kg to add to the gold he won at the Scottish Closed last month.

Welsh judoka Ocean Hughes (Camberley) came out top in the -46kg category whilst Stanley Pusey (Micklefield) took gold in the -50kg after taking gold in the Pre-Cadet Championships in 2022.

David Gheorghiu (Judo Sensi London) added the British Championship -55kg title to the English Closed title he claimed in September.

A single score was enough to see Noah Thomson (Pro Judo) top the -60kg podium and add the National title to the Scottish closed title he claimed in 2023. Whilst fellow Scottish judoka, Sol Savoury (Sportif) claimed gold in the -66kg category.

Oriol Rubio-Ruiz (Bradley Stoke) backed up his number one UK ranking this year, taking the -73kg title whilst another number one seed, Derek Marczak (Judo Sensi London) took the -81kg title in style – claiming the gold in just 10-seconds. Over the course of the day, he spent just 72 seconds on the tatami.

George Riley (High Wycombe) took the -90kg title, whilst in the +90kg category, Jack Williams (Team Bath) was crowned British Champion.

Cadet Girls

2023 GB Judo European Cadet Championship representative, Eva Ewing (Whitburn), showed why she’s ranked number one in the UK rankings as she claimed the -44kg title.

Blyth Juno Michi enjoyed two British Champions as Taylor Chrisp topped the -48kg category whilst Mia Simpson was crowned +70kg champion.

Kate Chrisholm (R.K Judo Club) showed great resolve, coming from a score down in the final to register a waza-ari and transition to a hold-down to claim the -52kg title.

Zhaklin Satari (Rush Judo) was in supreme form as she was crowned British Champion. Satari spent less than three minutes on the tatami in total to claim the -57kg title.

Shaina Rickman (Stotfold JC) took home the -40kg gold whilst Maia Thomson (Sportif) was crowned -63kg champion. The -70kg title went to Craven Judo Academy’s Tara-Nel Allan.

Pre-Cadet Boys

Yarden Hadah (Ealing) overcame a lengthy Final contest to claim gold in the -34kg category whilst in the -38kg category, English Closed champion, Harry Egleton (Bishops Stortford) was crowned British champion.

Samuel Knights (Mike’s Judo Club) added the British -42kg title to the English title he won earlier this year, whilst in the -46kg category Welsh Open champion Leone Bartoccioni-Menconi (Budokwai) claimed gold.

Ibrahim Mirza (Judo Sensi London) and Luka Iosebashvili (Palavani) added the British title to the English Closed and Welsh Open titles they have won in 2023 in the -50kg and -60kg categories respectively.

The -55kg title went to Yurii Loktionov (Tonbridge JC) with the -66kg title going to John Spiers (Wolverhampton and South Staffs), whilst Mohammed El-Amir (Core Judo) was crowned +73kg category.

Pre-Cadet Girls

Vanessa Hristozova (Judo Sensi London), Evie Mitchell (Middlesbrough) and Amber Donaghy (Wirral Judo) all added the British title to the English Closed and Welsh Open golds they claimed in 2023 in the -32kg, -57kg and -70kg categories, respectively.

There was Scottish success in the -36kg, -44kg, -48kg and -63kg categories as Betsy Doe (Pro Judo), Stella Cameron (Whitburn), Zoe Galbraith (Highland Budokan) and Lilly McGarry (Sportif) were all crowned champions.

Alessia Sheridan (Hebraica SP) took the -40kg honours whilst gold in the -52kg and +70kg categories went to Elise Simpson (Relentless) and Summer Lyons-Ashworth (SKK).

With four gold medals and one silver, Judo Sensi London topped the club medal table ahead of Sportif who had three gold, three silver and four bronze medals.
