British Judo can confirm that Acelya Toprak has transferred to the Azerbaijan Judo Federation with immediate effect.

Acelya said “I am greatly appreciative of the support I have received as a member of the GB World Class Performance Programme and would like to record my thanks to Programme’s players, coaches, managers and support team with whom I have worked with for the last 7 years. I have many fond memories of these times. Thank you all. Going forward I am excited to be a member of the Azerbaijan team as I pursue the goal of fulfilling my Olympic dreams and am very grateful for the support provided by the Azerbaijan Judo Federation to enable this to happen.”

Nigel Donohue, Performance Director at BJA, said “Acelya made the decision to ask to move to Azerbaijan with the view of fulfilling her Olympic dreams, which we reluctantly accepted. She has had great success with GB Judo and she leaves with our wishes of good luck for her future career.”
