Hiza-Guruma
Step 1Pull Uke to make them step forwards. |
Step 2As they take the step, block their movement. Put your leg out and place your foot by Uke’s knee. |
Step 3To throw, keep pulling Uke in a circular movement over your leg. |
Step 4As Uke falls, continue to rotate controlling your partner to complete the throw. |
Juji-Gatame
Step 1Sit with both legs over Uke’s chest. Pull Uke’s arm out straight between your legs. |
Step 2Place Uke’s arm tight against your leg. Push down with your legs and up with your hips. |
Juji-Gatame - Roll Over Entry
Step 1Place one leg under Uke’s stomach. At the same time scoop up Uke’s arm. |
Step 2Place your other leg under Uke’s chin and use it to lift Uke backwards. |
Step 3Once you have Uke on their back you will be in the Juji-Gatame position. |
Juji-Gatame - Sit Back Entry
Step 1Step over Uke, placing your foot on the mat by Uke’s side whilst lifting up their arm. |
Step 2Controlling the arm, sit back. |
Step 3Whilst sitting back, use the hooked leg to lift your partner over. |
Step 4As Uke rolls over, you will be in the correct position for Juji-Gatame. Push down with your legs and up with your hips. |
Sasae-Tsuri-Komi-Ashi
Step 1Take a small step backwards and pull with your sleeve grip. |
Step 2As Uke steps forward, put your leg out, blocking Uke’s leg at shin height. |
Step 3Keep pulling Uke around in a circle over your leg. |
Step 4Support Uke as you throw, pulling with your sleeve grip. |
