Harai-Goshi

Step 1

Take hold of Uke’s lapel and sleeve. Pull Uke forwards and off balance.

Step 2

Pivot on your supporting leg and as you turn in sweep Uke’s outside leg with your leg.

Step 3

You should aim to make contact with your hip and side. Keep balance as you throw.

Step 4

Rotate to finish the throw, turning your head and pulling on the sleeve.

Uchi-Mata

Step 1

Take a small step towards Uke. Pull Uke onto their toes pulling upwards with your sleeve.

Step 2

Place your support leg between your partner’s legs.

Step 3

Now swing your attacking leg upwards against Uke’s inner thigh.

Step 4

Keep balance on one leg and you rotate your partner cleanly onto their back.

Ude-Gatame

Step 1

When Uke attempts to push Tori away, grab hold of the arm.

Step 2

Trap Uke’s arm under your neck and chin. Place your hands on Uke’s elbow and with control, apply pressure.

Waki-Gatame

Step 1

When Uke attempts to escape from the hold, release your grip and grab hold of the pushing arm.

Step 2

Wrap your armpit over Uke’s arm. Control the elbow by pulling the arm outwards and making contact with your chest.
