Ko-Soto-Gake

Step 1

Hook Uke’s forward foot, using the back of your heel or calf.

Step 2

Drive Uke backwards with both your collar and sleeve as you hook the foot.

Step 3

Support and control Uke as they fall to the mat.

Ko-Soto-Gari

Step 1

Step forward with your left leg.

Step 2

Transfer your weight to your right leg.

Step 3

Sweep partner’s foot with your left leg.

Step 4

Control Uke as they fall to the mat.

Ko-Uchi-Gari into Morote-Seoi-Nage

Step 1

Attack with Ko-Uchi-Gari to make Uke step backwards.

Step 2

This opens up a space for you to attack with Morote-Seoi-Nage.

Step 3

Turn in, placing your elbow under Uke’s arm, whilst you pull your partner towards you.

Step 4

Continue with the throw, rotating Uke cleanly onto their back.

Morote-Seoi-Nage

Step 1

Pull Uke upwards onto their toes.

Step 2

Turn in placing your elbow under Uke’s arm, whilst pulling hard on the sleeve.

Step 3

Lift Uke by straightening your legs.

Step 4

To throw, rotate, turn your shoulders and head.

Tai-Otoshi countered by Ko-Soto-Gake/Gari

Step 1

When Uke attacks with Tai-Otoshi, step over the attacking leg.

Step 2

Now change direction, drive off your supporting leg as you hook your other leg around Uke’s.

Step 3

Drive Uke backwards with Ko-Soto-Gake or Gari.

Turnover from underneath Uke into Tate-Shiho-Gatame

Step 1

Push Uke’s arm to the side of your head.

Step 2

Clamp onto Uke’s head and shoulder.

Step 3

Use your left leg to control Uke and right leg to turn Uke over.

Step 4

Complete the turnover with Tate-Shiho-Gatame.
