Six judoka selected for Junior World Championships

British Judo are pleased to announce the six judoka who have been selected to compete at the Junior World Championships in Odivelas, Portugal, from 4th – 8th October.

Following his recent bronze medal at the Junior European Championships, Luke Davies (Ealing JC; Jo Crowley) leads the team as he competes in the -73kg category.

Completing the men’s team, Davies will be joined by fellow Junior European Championship representatives, Lewis Fryer (Rush Judo; Laurie Rush) and Daniel Ede (Westcroft JC; Andrew Ede) in the -60kg and +100kg categories respectively.

Fryer claimed silver at the inaugural Birmingham Junior European Cup in June after topping the podium in Kaunas whilst Ede claimed bronze in both Birmingham and Kaunas.

In the women’s category, following their recent involvement in the Junior European Championships, Charlotte Jenman (Tonbridge JC; Ben Urban) and Anya Hassan (Middlesbrough JC; Garth Illingworth) have been selected in the -52kg and -78kg categories respectively.

Jenman has made the final at two Junior European Cups this year, topping the podium in Birmingham. Meanwhile Hassan, won her first Junior European Cup medal in Paks following two 5th place finishes in Kaunas and Birmingham.

Maddy Birri (Ealing JC; Jo Crowley) has been selected to compete alongside Jenman in the -52kg category. Following a string of successive 5th place finishes at the Sarajevo, Kaunas and Birmingham Junior European Cups, Birri secured silver at the Skopje Junior European Cup.
