Tough day two at World Judo Masters
It was a tough second day for GB judoka at the IJF World Judo Masters as Lachlan Moorhead, Lucy Renshall and Jemima Yeats-Brown were all in action.
Lachlan Moorhead (Sheffield JC; Matt Moorhead) was making his second appearance at the World Judo Masters, as he fought in the -81kg category.
Moorhead overcame Askerbii Gerbekov (BRN) in the opening round courtesy of two waza-ari scores in quick succession. With 60-seconds of the contest remaining Moorhead threw with kouchi gari before following up in the next exchange with yoko-guruma.
Next up for Moorhead was former World Champion and Olympic silver medallist Saeid Mollaei (AZE). Moorhead matched his vastly experienced opponent until the midway point in the contest when Mollaei threw Morhead for ippon score with kata guruma.
Lucy Renshall (SKK; Pete Blood) faced Nami Nabekura (JPN) in round two, following an opening round bye.
It was a mighty battle between world number one (Renshall) and former World Judo Masters champion (Nabekura). With nothing between the pair, the contest entered Golden Score.
As the contest neared the 8-minute mark, Renshall took her opponent to ground but was countered and pinned for waza-ari score.
Making her World Judo Masters debut, Jemima Yeats-Brown (Ryecroft; Ian Oliver) bowed out in the opening round courtesy of two waza-ari scores by Anka Pogacnik (SLO).
