GB Judoka set for the inaugural Birmingham Junior European Cup
This weekend over 270 judoka from 18 countries will descend upon the home of British Judo for the inaugural Birmingham Junior European Cup. The University of Wolverhampton will stage a unique opportunity that will enable GB judoka, and coaches alike, to experience high levels of competition in a crucial development stage in their careers, on home soil.
Across the next two days of competition, 100 GB judoka will compete against some of the best young talent from across European and the World as fighters from France, Israel and the United States of America all battle to win gold.
Lewis Fryer topped the podium at the Kaunas Junior European Cup earlier this year. The -60kg judoka will be in action on Saturday.
In the -70kg category, Ellie Gilbert recently claimed silver at the Kaunas Junior European Cup.
Eryk Neumann recently claimed bronze at the Kaunas Junior European Cup. He will be joined in the -73kg category by Billy Rodman and Benjamin Levy have both registered 7th place finishes at Junior European Cups.
2022 European Cadet Championship bronze medallist Charlotte Jenman will compete in -52kg category, Jenman recently won silver at the Kaunas Junior European Cup. She will be joined by Maddie Birri who with two 5th-place finishes at Junior European Cups in 2023, will be hoping to reach the podium on Sunday.
Ammi Takahashi has already tasted Junior European success as she won gold in Prague last year. With a bronze medal already in 2023 in Lignano the -57kg judoka will also compete on Sunday.
Daniel Ede recently won bronze at the Kaunas Junior European Cup in the +100kg category. Whilst, in the -100kg category, Gregor Miller has recently recorded two back-to-back 7th place finishes at the Kaunas and Malaga Junior European Cups.
Preliminary Rounds start at 10:00am on both days with Final Block to follow
