This weekend saw nearly 700 pupils battle it out to be crowned British Schools Judo Champion.
The championships, staged at the same venue as the prestigious British National Championships at the EIS, Sheffield saw 77 British Schools Champions crowned over a fantastic weekend of judo action.
The opening day saw 31 British Champions crowned in the Years 8/9 and 10/11 age categories.
St Ninians High School topped the medal table after the opening day with 1 gold and 1 silver medal ahead of Gordano (2 silver) and Archibishop Tennisons (1 gold).
Day two got off to a fantastic start as the youngest age group at this years championships, years 6/7, were in action before mat 5 was handed over to the Adaptive and VI competition.

16 British Schools Champions were crowned across a range of classifications. Special recognition went to Hugo Bates who was presented with the Sam Haycock award for Best Player in Adaptive and VI competition.

There was also an award for Matthew Rush (Rush Judo Club) who received the Malcolm Collins Award for Services to Adaptive Judo.

Following the culmination of the Years 12/13 competition the overall points were calculated across the two days of competition before Lady Manners School were crowned victorious thanks to gold medals from Saffiyah and Idris Khan and a silver medal from Ilyas Khan.
The weekend also saw 15 referees and officials under the age of 30 in action. Two of those referees, George Holland (Relentless Judo Club) and Cian Marris (Concorde Judo Club) were presented the Ken Webber award for Outstanding Young Referee.

K-C Franklin (Micklefield Judo Club) had a particularly busy weekend as she worked as Competition Recorder on the opening day, having qualified in August 2022 after 3 years as a table official, before winning silver in the Yr 12/13 -48kg competition on day two. She was also awarded the Jerry Hicks Award for the Outstanding Junior Official
Liz O’Neil (Moberly Judo Club) passed her exam to become part of the Provisional Competition Controller programme and three referees were also promoted following assessments this weekend.
