Chloe Cowen-Vickers joins England Judo Coaching Team
England Judo is pleased to welcome Chloe Cowen-Vickers to the position of England Talent Development Coach.
Cowen-Vickers will join England Judo Head Coach Jason Parsons to help develop the next generation of judo talent and prepare England judoka for the British Judo World Class Performance Programme for future success at Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Cowen-Vickers was a key member of the British Judo squad from 1998 – 2001, winning 5x European medals and represented Team GB at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
Following her retirement, Cowen-Vickers worked at British Judo as a Support Coach, supporting cadet national programmes, from 2003 to 2007, and was Head Women’s Coach for England Judo in 2006, managing and coaching the women’s team and providing elite mat-side coaching.
In 2008 Cowen-Vickers became British Judo Technical Officer, providing mat-based support to future and existing coaches.
Cowen-Vickers became Head Coach for the England Performance Pathway Centre in 2011, running the Performance Pathway Centre and Advance Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) in the BJA Northern Area.
Cowen-Vickers has been Head Coach at Gateshead Judo Club since 2011, developing numerous judoka that have gone on gain England and GB squad selections.
More recently Cowen-Vickers can be heard commentating on EJU events and was even a commentator for the BBC coverage of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Cowen-Vickers has been a Performance Coach at the Northern Ireland Judo Federation since 2018 and was named as National Lead Coach for Irish Judo earlier this year.
British Judo’s Head of Performance Pathways, Matt Divall said: “I am delighted Chloe is re-joining British Judo as part of the England Judo programme in the role of England Talent Development Coach.
“Chloe has great experience both as a judoka and a coach and has a proven track record at developing judo talent from her experience at her club and past work with British Judo and more recently with Northern Ireland and the Irish national teams.”
