Alec Edwards, Cambridge University coach, has recently been awarded his 6th Dan. Alec’s engagement with judo has spanned a wide range of activities over 50+ years.

He has refereed at Area and National level, is a Senior Examiner, Kata Examiner and Level 3 coach. He has supported and led kata courses throughout the country and won a World Masters Bronze medal in Canada in 2000.

Alec Edwards continues to deliver kata courses in the Eastern Area and remains an active coach at Cambridge University Judo Club, where he coaches three times a week. Alec’s enthusiasm, peppered with his cheerful disposition, has made him a highly effective and respected coach.

Alec has contributed much to the development of other judoka over the years and he is held in high esteem by those who know him and have benefitted from his selfless, modest, dedication to their progress.

Steve Lesik, from the Promotion Commission, presented Alec with his 6th Dan at a surprise presentation party held in his honour.

Dave Horton-Jones, British Judo National Dan Gradings Manager said: “It is fantastic to see Alec achieve his 6^th Dan after the immense contribution he had made to judo both in his area and Nationally.”
