76 JUDOKA CROWNED CHAMPIONS AT THE 2022 BRITISH SCHOOLS WEEKEND: Updated
Earlier this month the EIS Sheffield played host to over 700 pupils as they battled it out at the British Schools Championships.
Unfortunately, due to an administrative error, 50 entrants were assigned the incorrect school which impacted the original results.
Saturday’s schedule included academic year groups 8 & 9 and 10 & 11 take to the mat, while Sunday saw school years 6 & 7, 12 & 13 and Adaptive and Visually Impaired judoka compete. In addition to pupils battling it out for personal honours, they were also competing for their schools.
Harrow School were back in the mix this year and looking for to take back the top spot in the league table, but faced tough competition from a host of schools including Eastbury Community and The Hertfordshire & Essex High School and Science College.
Having checked, rechecked, and triple checked the results, all three schools have finished on 12 points! In a British Schools Judo Championships first it looked like we were heading for a tie, however with two gold medals Eastbury Community and The Hertfordshire & Essex High School and Science College finished ahead of Harrow School with one gold and three bronze medals.
To separate the top two schools our team had to look at the individual scorecards of each medal winner with the most ippon winning scores to be declared the overall victor.
With 7 wins by ippon score, Eastbury College are crowned British Schools Judo Champions ahead of Hertfordshire & Essex High School and Science College who had a total of 6 victories by ippon score and one by waza-ari.
