6 British Judo Juniors set for European Championships
The Junior European Judo Championships start tomorrow with six British Judo fighters in action across the 4-day event.
Over 350 judoka will compete at the National Centre for Sports and Culture in Luxembourg to be crowned Junior European Judo Champion.
British Judo has great history at the Junior European Championships with 27 previous champions, the most recent being Kelly Petersen-Pollard in 2019 whilst Kate Howey was crowned Junior European champion three times during her career – a European Judo record she shares with just seven other fighters.
Thursday 9th
In the -52kg category Sian Bobrowska and Tatum Keen will be looking to build on their impressive recent performances at the Udine Junior European Cup where Bobrowska placed 7th and Keen 5th.
Keen has been drawn in Pool A and will face 10th seeded fighter Buketnur Karabulut (TUR) in the opening round.
Meanwhile in Pool B, Bobrowska will face Paz Kafri (ISR) in her opening round contest. The pair last met in the opening round of the Bucharest Junior European Cup earlier this year, where Bobrowska was victorious.
Charlie Young and Finlay Allan compete in the -66kg category.
Young is drawn is Pool D and will face 9th seed and silver medallist at the Prague Junior European Cup, Rashad Guluzade (AZE) in the opening round.
Allan, who finished 7th at the Coimbra Junior European Cup earlier this year, is drawn in Pool A and has an opening round contest against Miha Brence (SLO).
Saturday 11th
Max Gregory and Oliver Barratt compete in the -100kg category. Both fighters have recently returned from the Paralympic Games in Tokyo where they were training partners to Paralympic Champion Chris Skelley and silver medallist Elliot Stewart.
Gregory faces Paul Creata (ROU) in his opening round match in Pool B.
In Pool D, Barratt will face Ruslan Nasirli (AZE) in the opening round. Nasirli was a bronze medallist earlier this year at the Coimbra Junior European Cup.
Also representing British Judo is Lisa Rivers who has been selected as a referee for the Championships.
Preliminary rounds start at 9.00am (BST) on Thursday and Friday and 10am (BST) on Saturday.
Final Block starts at 15:30 (BST) on Thursday and 15:00 (BST) on Friday and Saturday.
