British Judo are on the look out for a number of volunteers to join the events team ahead of the upcoming 2019 Commonwealth Judo Championships, due to be held in Walsall during 25th-29th September.

We are looking for individuals who are:

  • Interested in sport (any knowledge of judo is a bonus);
  • Good communicators;
  • Able to work in teams;
  • Can represent British Judos values (Respect, Unity, Excellence, Trust, Integrity).

Roles Available:

Training Hall Assistant

The training hall for the Commonwealth Judo Championships 2019 is a key part of the event, hosting athletes, coaches and delegates for the duration of the event.

The main role(s) of the Training Hall team:
– To oversee athletes, coaches and delegates entering the building;
– Manage the training hall schedule for teams and our school programme;
– Manage the hall space, keeping it tidy and presentable;
– Provide and hand out information to attendees.

The Training Hall assistants would report to the Volunteer Manager. Applicants for this role must be over 18 years of age.

Athlete Area Assistant

The athlete areas are important to the flow of athletes and delegation members across the campus. Particularly in the registration phases of the competition.

The main role(s) of the Athlete Area team:
– To oversee athletes, coaches and delegates entering the building;
– Converse and identify athletes for the appropriate registration stages:
– Manage the spaces, keeping it tidy and presentable;
– Work within a team with regular checks on competition running order screens;
– Be respectful but assertive to ensure athletes arrive to competition area promptly.

The Athlete Area assistants would report to the Volunteer Manager. Applicants for this role must be over 18 years of age.

Athlete Pathway Assistant

Due to the layout of the facility and the competition arena over multiple buildings, a quick easy transition of athletes to the respective arenas is vitally important to the smooth running of each day.

The main role(s) of the Athlete Pathway team:
– Direct athletes, coaches and delegates to the appropriate venue;
– Be respectful but assertive to ensure athletes arrive to the competition arena promptly;
– Ensure signage is clear and in view of all;
– Check accreditation at various entry points to ensure safety of all delegation enter the relevant environments.

The Athlete Pathway assistants would report to the Volunteer Manager. Applicants for this role must be over 18 years of age.

Ticket Assistant

The ticket assistants will be the first port of call for the hundreds of spectators arriving each day. Dealing with general enquiries and the flow of the public in the main hall; the ticket assistants are vital to the experience of the spectators and the effective operation of the event.

The main role(s) of the Ticket team:
– Dealing with general enquiries from spectators, athletes and delegation members;
– Giving directions around the campus and the competition;
– Managing access to the sports hall, stopping unauthorised access;
– Working with the Finance team, to provide pre-purchased ticket holders their tickets ;and to manage the flow of on the day ticket purchases.

The Ticket assistants would report to the Finance Manager. Applicants for this role must be over 18 years of age.

CARE System Operators

Working alongside the media, livestream and referee team, the CARE system operators are vital to the smooth refereeing of the matches and broadcast of the event.

The main role(s) of the CARE team:
– Operate CARE system cameras to follow on mat action;
– Coverage of ceremonies and medal presentations;
– Liaise with media, livestream and referee team to ensure all requirements are met;
– Opportunities to produce content for social media dependant on experience.

The CARE System Operators would report to the Media and Communications Manager.

Event Assistant

Closely working with the Events Manager, the events assistants would be responsible for different factions of the event.

The main role(s) of the Event Assistants:
– Spectator management
– Competitor management
– VIP hospitality and arrangements for ceremonies
– Point of contact for Officials and Volunteers
– Opportunities for pre-event planning, set up and build.

The Event Assistants would report to the Event Manager. Applicants for this role must be over 18 years of age.

General Volunteer Information

General Volunteer Information:

  • Due to tight budget constraints for the event, there are no travel expenses available.
  • Lunch will be provided free when a volunteer stays for a full day/ two shifts within a day.
  • Tea, coffee and refreshments will be provided for all volunteers.
  • Volunteers will receive an event t-shirt to wear whilst volunteering.
  • For certain positions volunteers should be over 18 years of age. Please note that these will be marked out
