Weekend Preview: British Judo Juniors set for Hungary European Cup
Away from the European Games, there are a number of British Judo junior athletes with ambitions of one day competing for Team GB on the senior stage, competing at the Junior Paks European Cup this weekend – 22-26th June.
Following a string of recent victories at the Senior European Cup in Celje-Podcetrtek and the Junior European Cup in Leibnitz, Kelly Petersen-Pollard (-70kg) leads the 16-strong GB Judo stars of the future, team making the trip to Hungary.
Also making the trip is Josie Steele (-57kg), who also enters in great form following recent medals at the Junior European Cups in Coimbra, Malaga and Leibnitz.
2017 European Youth Olympic Festival gold medallist Amy Platten (-48kg) is also set to compete, along with Yasmin Javadian (-52kg) who is making her first appearance of the year.
Following bronze medals at the Junior European Cups in Kaunas and Coimbra, Lachlan Moorhead (-81kg) leads the men’s team, while Henry Wakes (-66kg) will be hoping to add to the bronze medal he won at the Junior European Cup in Kaunas earlier this year.
Also competing are recent British Judo Elite Development Squad (EDS) athletes: Sian Bobrowska (-48kg), Mollie Game (-63kg), Max Gregory (-100kg) and Oliver Barratt (+100kg).

Following the competition, the team will remain in Hungary for a training camp where they will be joined by Lewis Liney (-90kg), Simone Cross (-70kg), Cordelia Gregory (-78kg) and Fayokemi Abidekun (+78kg).
