Today saw the second and final day of the IBSA European Judo Championships for the British team, with Sam Ingram (-90kg) and Natalie Greenhough (-70kg) in action. It was two-time European Champion, Ingram that added to Britain’s medal tally with a third bronze of the competition.

Ingram started the day against Ramin Aliyev (AZE) in the -90kg category. Scoring yuko early in the contest, Ingram ended the fight with a ippon worthy tomoe-nage to progress into the semi-final.

Standing in the way of a place in the final was Georgian, Zviad Gogotchuri, a strong judoka who has previously competed at a high level in sighted judo. Ingram presented a challenge to Gogotchuri, but it was the Georgian who took the win, holding down Ingram for ippon.

Ingram then faced Vladimir Fedin of Russia in the bronze medal contest. Going a yuko down early on in the contest, Ingram came back strong, throwing the Russian judoka for waza-ari before getting the hold down for the win and bronze medal.

Natalie Greenhough (-70kg) fought hard but claimed no wins over the course of the day in a small but tough pool for the British judoka.

The IBSA European Judo Championships presented the final opportunity for the British judoka to claim Rio 2016 Paralympic qualification points. With three bronze medals, all will have taken strides towards qualification this weekend.
