Last weekend’s African Open gold medallist, Ben Fletcher, is amongst 15 British judoka in Australia this week for the Oceania Open, Wollongong.

More medals could be on the cards for the 15 British judoka, who will be seeking vital Rio Olympic qualification points.

Owen Livesey (-81kg) is looking to go one better than his silver medal last week: “It was the first of three competitions on this tour, so to start it with a medal was good and obviously more points towards Rio qualification. On to Australia [for the Oceania Open] now where I can hopefully go one better.”

Livesey will be joined in the -81kg category by fellow Brit Tom Reed.

Nathon Burns (-66kg) will be looking to be in the medals again after taking silver last weekend. Joining Burns in the -66kg category will be Lewis Keeble.

In the -90kg category will see British players Andy Burns and George Smith to better their 5th and 7th places last weekend. They will be joined by Frazer Chamberlain, who alongside Burns, medalled in Glasgow last month.

Kim Renicks (-48kg) is back in action after last weekend’s African Open, and will be looking to better the bronze medal earned there.

Joining Ben Fletcher (-100kg) in Australia is his sister Megan (-70kg), who will be looking to continue her good form after a silver medal at the European Open in Lisbon last month. Meanwhile, Ben will be looking to back up his gold last weekend with another golden performance.

Sarah Adlington (+78kg) has the opportunity to back-up her African Open bronze ahead of the coming Grand Prix and Grand Slam competitions.

The competition will take place between 13-14th November, with action starting with preliminary rounds at 12th November 22:00 GMT (local time – 09:00 am 13th November).
