Dozen aiming for medals in Mauritius
A busy month for British Judo players gets started with the Port-Louis African Open in Mauritius on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November.
12 British judoka will be going for medals and vital Rio Olympic qualification throughout the day including London 2012 Olympians and Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth champions.
Owen Livesey (-81kg) will be looking to back-up his gold from the Glasgow European Open in October with another big performance. He will be joined in the same category by fellow Brit Tom Reed who will be hoping to get one over his great rival.
Sarah Adlington (+78kg) has an opportunity to back-up her Lisbon European Open silver and Paris Grand Slam seventh place in Mauritius but she could well face Ksenia Chibisova (RUS) who finished fifth at the World Championships in Astana earlier this year.
The -90kg could see British success with Andy Burns, Frazer Chamberlain and George Smith all competing. Burns and Chamberlain both medalled in Glasgow last month while Smith secured a credible seventh place.
Ben Fletcher (-100kg) has had a strong second half of the year including a Grand Prix and European Open medal. Strong third round finishes at Astana, Paris Grand Slam and Abu Dhabi Grand Slam have also seen him into a direct Olympic qualification position, something he will look to solidify in Mauritius.
