The British Judo Association has recently received additional Sport England funding, however the funding received was insufficient to sustain the current level of programmes and staff. Therefore the organisation has undergone a restructuring process.

Sport England funding supports the British Judo Association’s grass-roots sport development, as a result the Association’s Delivery and Technical departments have been restructured.

The two departments have been combined to form a new Delivery department made up of three Delivery Teams, a Technical Manager and Destination@BritishJudo Manager, reporting to Director, Colin McIver.

Delivery Teams will be formed to give the best coverage possible to the country, with teams placed in the North/West, North East/East and London/South. We will be working closely with the British Judo Areas to maximise opportunities.

Each Delivery Team will be made up of a Delivery Team Leader and three Delivery Officers (four in London/South). The Delivery Teams will have both club development and technical responsibilities.

The full structure is shown in the diagram below, which will be in place from 8 November 2016. However, the initial weeks will be spent meeting with key partners, areas and clubs to refine the work programmes.

Unfortunately, as part of the restructure, the Association had to make a number of redundancies. Mark Beecher will leave his position as Delivery Director after 15 years of service, alongside employees Steve Fraser, who will leave his position as Technical Officer in the London after seven years of service to the Association; Matt Divall, England Programme Manager, who has been employed at British Judo for eight years; Jeff Hynds, Service Manager, after six years at the Association; Terri Elliot, Volunteer Development Manager, after seven years of service. Liz Burdis, Service Manager, and Steve Gawthorpe, Technical Officer will also leave the Association after taking voluntary redundancy.
