Next stop: Tashkent Grand Prix
The road to Rio continues with the next stop in Uzbekistan for the Tashkent Grand Prix, where over 350 athletes across 56 countries will be on hunt for crucial Olympic qualifications points. A total of 12 self-funding British players have made their way to Uzbekistan and will be on stage throughout the next three days.
British Judo currently has eight players in the direct qualified zone for Rio 2016, with an additional person holding onto the continental quota. This weekend could be game-changing for some and a possible extension to the number of qualified athletes.
The first day will see Pan-American silver medallist and Commonwealth Games winner, Kimberley RENICKS (-48kg) as well as double African Open bronze and Commonwealth Games silver medallist, Kelly EDWARDS (-52kg). Renicks will meet Kristina RUMYANTSEVA (RUS) in the first round, where a win will take her straight into the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, Edwards will face Guldana ALMUKHANBETOVA (KAZ) as her first challenge of the day. Following her opening contest, Edwards will have to overcome Laura GOMEZ (ESP) in the second round to book her spot in the quarter-finals.
The second day will bring actions from Patrick DAWSON (-73kg), Jan GOSIEWSKI (-73kg), Tom REED (-81kg), Alice SCHLESINGER (-63kg) and Megan FLETCHER (-70kg).
The third and final day will see Gemma GIBBONS (-78kg), Natalie POWELL (-78kg), Sarah Adlington (+78kg), Gary HALL (-90kg) and Andy BURNS (-90kg) all going for vital Rio qualification points.
The tournament will begin at 5:00am (GMT). Check out the rest of the DRAW online http://www.ippon.org/gp_uzb2015.php
