The British Olympic Association (BOA) has today announced the 44 athletes selected to represent Team GB at the Tbilisi 2015 European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF 2015) from July 26th to August 1st 2015.

With many athletes already working on the road to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, EYOFs play a crucial role in the development of young British athletes and provide a multi-sport experience that helps them along the route to achieving their own Olympic dreams.

Team GB at Tbilisi 2015 will consist of 44 athletes all, aged between 13 and 17 years old, who will compete across five sports; cycling, gymnastics, judo, swimming and tennis.

The 12 judoka selected to represent Team GB are:

GREENIDGE, Wesley

JONES, William

Team GB will test themselves against Europe’s finest youth athletes as EYOF 2015 is set to welcome around 2,400 competitors from 50 nations for six days of action. The Festival will feature nine sports in total with athletics, basketball, handball and volleyball making up the programme in Georgia.

The 12 judoka that make up the squad will be joined in Tbilisi by 16 swimmers, four tennis players, six cyclists and six artistic gymnasts.

The Festival follows on from the previous edition of EYOF two years ago at Utrecht 2013, which saw Team GB return home with 31 medals, including nine golds.

Leading Team GB at EYOF 2015 as Chef de Mission will be Olympic silver medal winning modern pentathlete Heather Fell.

As well as her success at Beijing 2008, Fell has also been part of the BOA’s Athlete’s Commission since January 2013, helping to advise on all things Team GB on behalf of the athletes.

Fell said: “It’s a huge honour to be Chef de Mission and I’m really looking forward to getting out to Tbilisi 2015. I have a huge amount of sporting experience from when I was an athlete and it’s fantastic to be a part of the Team GB set up again, this time helping others.

“It would be great to bring back medals but it’s also about the journey, and these athletes hopefully progressing on to the top level. For those young athletes, success will be going out there and giving their best and enjoying the experience. It’s a stepping stone for many and it’s a huge learning curve for both them and me.”
