This weekend (13-14 December) sees the welcome return of the British Judo Championships to the English Institute of Sport (EIS) in Sheffield.

Some of Britain’s brightest young stars will be in action on Saturday during the Junior Championships, with old and new talent as some of the up-and-coming cadets push the juniors and juniors push the seniors.

Many of the Centre of Excellence athletes will be in action; including Ebony Drysdale Daley, who won silver at the recent world championships and Jemima Yeats-Brown who took bronze at the Commonwealth Games and junior worlds and there will also be an appearance from Cadet European and Youth Olympic bronze medallist Pete Miles. These are just a fraction of the players in action, representing clubs up and down the country and across the United Kingdom for a place on next year’s Great Britain squad.

Sunday is the turn of the seniors. There will be strong representation from many of this year’s Commonwealth stars such as Colin Oates, Nekoda Davis and Ashley McKenzie, Sarah Adlington, Natalie Powell, Jemima Yeats-Brown and Junior VI World champion Chris Skelley. These are just some of the names in action.

The coming year is an important one in terms of Olympic qualification. A place on the squad will help athletes to access the very international events that are crucial to build world ranking points.

There will be a host of existing and up-and-coming talent hoping to earn a place on the Great Britain junior and senior squads.
