Pat Cusack passes away after illness

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Patrick Cusack.

Pat, husband to Margaret and Dad to Billy, Lorraine and Karen passed away around 5pm on Friday 25 July 2014 after being diagnosed with mesothelioma at the beginning of March this year.

Towards the end, Pat was adamant that Billy went to the Commonwealth Games and ‘did his job’.

Unfortunately, Billy was informed of his dad’s death around an hour before the finals on day two.

Billy showed great strength of character that day by then coaching Sarah Clark, Patrick Dawson and Sally Conway in their respective final contests and then more of the team, including Sarah Adlington, the following day.

Pat was a proud father to his three kids and his six grandchildren. Pat loved anything physical and encouraged everyone to push themselves as hard as possible and be the best they could be.
Pat followed both Billy and Karen around the world throughout their judo careers.

Anyone who knew Pat will know that he was the most positive, upbeat person. His glass was ‘always full’. Anyone who knows Billy, will know that his dad was an inspiration to him. Billy believes that Pat was the driving force in building his character, his values and how he lives his life.

The family have been very touched by all the messages they have received and by the love and support they’ve had during Pat’s illness.

The funeral will take place on Tuesday 5th August 2014 at 11am at St. Margaret’s Church, Lady Brae, Gorebridge.
