Pete Miles joins the John Davies West of England Summer Camp
Pete Miles will be the star guest at the John Davies West of England International Summer Training Camp on Tuesday 20 August.
During the event, which runs from Saturday 17 to Wednesday 21 August, Pete’s presence is sure to motivate and inspire hundreds of young judoka so soon after the 17-year old claimed bronze at the World Cadet Championships in Miami.
Judoka from Germany, France, Northern Ireland, Wales and England will all be attending the camp at Kingsley School, Bideford in North Devon.
Pete will bring along his collection of major title medals to show the camp attendees, many of whom will no doubt be clamouring to ask him questions about his championship success and training experiences this year, which has also yielded a silver medal in the European Youth Olympics and bronze in the European Championships.
Open randori with Pete on Tuesday starts at 2pm to 4pm following a morning technical session from 10am to 12 noon.
He will be joined by fellow GB team mate Natasha Maslen, who has also had a great season so far.
First she won the British University Championships and then two European Cup bronze medals, in both the Junior and Senior categories.
BJA Western area coach Simon Ward, who is full time at the Kingsley School Judo Club, and co-organiser of the event with with Sandra Klinger, said: “I’m really pleased that young Pete Miles will be attending to help motivate and train with many of the West Judoka just after winning bronze at World Cadets.”
The camp now in its fourth year includes a great mix of tough training and fun challenging activities.
On the coaching side, Juergen Klinger, the Head Coach for the Team Bath High Performance Judo, will attend the camp on Sunday and Monday to provide some expert coach time before flying out to the Senior World Championships in Rio with Team Bath’s Jan Gosiewski who will be competing in the -73kg competition.
Formerly the Assistant National Coach of Germany Jeurgen, a 6th Dan, has worked with many world and Olympic medallists. Spanish International Javier Madera -81kg who won Gold at the 2010 European Cup in London, as well as a number of other medal winning performances at World Cup’s and National titles will also be a guest coach on Sunday and Monday. As well as a packed judo calendar, this year features a new total wipe water challenge, based on the TV show and a 20 mile mountain ride on North Devon’s famous Tarka Trail.
The event is based at Kingsley School, Sports Hall, Northdown Road, EX39 3LY, Bideford, North Devon and starts at 10am with an open training day free for members of the West, North and South England Excel venues, since Simon is a West Excel coach.
There will be quality coaching sessions and open randori for all ages from 2pm to 4pm. A social BBQ and team games will also be held in the evening from around 6pm.
