2013 European Judo Championships Preview: 16-Strong Team Represent GB in Budapest
A 16-strong squad will represent British Judo at this weekend’s 2013 European Judo Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
The squad includes -70kg Samsun Grand Prix gold medallist and Olympian Sally Conway, along with fellow Olympians Ashley McKenzie and Chris Sherrington. Also included in the squad are two sets of siblings with brother and sister, Ben and Megan Fletcher selected alongside sisters Kimberley and Louise Renicks.
London starlet Nekoda Davis will also make her European Championship debut having recently taken gold at the Sarajevo Grand Prix, followed by victory in both the Junior and Senior Northern Ireland Open last weekend.
The action starts on Thursday 25th April with both of the Kimberly and Louise Renicks both in action at -48kg and -52kg respectively and both Nekoda Davis and Connie Ramsay representing GB at -57kg. The men’s action sees Ashley McKenzie going for European glory at -60kg with Graham Trinder also competing at that weight.
Day two sees Conway take centre-stage alongside Megan Fletcher in the women’s -70kg category, with Patrick Dawson and Jan Gosiewski in the men’s -73kg and Tom Davis on the tatami at -81kg.
Welsh judoka Natalie Powell round’s up the women’s action at -78kg on the final day whilst Andrew Burns fights at -90kg and Ben Fletcher at -100kg. Royal Marine Chris Sherrington competes at +100kg alongside Matthew Clempner.
