Nekoda Davis wins Junior German European Cup bronze

Ealing Judo Club starlet Nekoda Davis won her fifth Junior European Cup medal of the year with a bronze medal-winning performance in Berlin on Saturday.

Davis, 19, was part of a nine-strong team with Katie-Jemima Yeats-Brown, Philip Awiti and Jade Lewis ruled out through injury.

Middlesex teenager Davis, who earned a hard-fought seventh-place at the London British Open in May, competed in a talent-rich -57kg category which featured 48 judoka.

Davis started her tournament with a win over Poland’s Agnieszka Szymczak before dispatching German pair Pia Brenneisen and Alexandra Doerper.

In the quarter-final Davis faced a third successive German opponent and frustrated the home supporters once more with victory over Swantje Kaiser.

The semi-final pitted the young Briton against Alexandra Zwirner and Davis finally come undone against a hometown judoka to enter the repechage.

In the bronze medal contest Davis fought Poland’s Arleta Podolak and reigned supreme to clinch a highly-impressive fifth Junior European Cup medal of 2012.

Britain’s finest junior judoka will be in action at the Junior European Championships from 21-23 September in Porec, Croatia.
