Over 250 judoka attend the 2011 Tonbridge International Camp
The 2011 Tonbridge International Training Camp saw 250 international judoka attend the annual event from Sunday 18 – Wednesday 21 December.

The camp – which is aimed at 14 – 23-year-olds who are already making a mark on the national stage – featured a 12-strong Russian team who were led by their coach Vladimir Drachko, a former European Champion who led a special technical masterclass during the camp.

The 2011 instalment of one of Britain’s most popular international training camps also attracted teams from Austria, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Luxembourg along with the Netherlands and Germany who have already confirmed they’ll be back for 2012 with larger numbers.

Japan also sent some of their brightest prospects from Tsukuba University which has a rich and renowned production line of creating world-class judoka.

Coaches included Moscow Olympian Chris Bowles, a European silver medallist and double British Open champion as well as Carl Finney, a double Commonwealth and British Open champion.

Carl Finney, the camp’s co-organiser, said: “The idea was to get as much randori as possible, we had two sessions a day and the players competed 85 individual randori.

“The feedback we received from participants and teams was excellent and we’re already looking forward to hosting even more judoka at the 2012 camp.”
