Cobra Judo Club, who have been based out of Harvey Hadden Leisure Centre for over 10 years, have started the search for a new venue after the council announced plans to close the facility for redevelopment from the end of the year until 2015.

The thriving club, which was founded in 1996, specialises in junior judo and has over 50 members with former British champion Ricki Clark among the club’s most celebrated names.

Cobra’s impressive track record includes a 34 medal return for 2011 and a host of players now established members of the Nottingham County Squad players and regular medallists at national events and international competitions.

Club founder and head coach Paul Keeton, who won the IBF European Championships in 1991, is leading the search for a new venue after a memorable decade at Harvey Hadden Leisure Centre which has also played host to many of the region’s most popular competitions.

“We’re working to identify locations and ideally these will have the capacity to host competitions“, said the sombo and jiu-jitsu 1st Dan.

“We have a lot of history and good memories at Harvey Hadden but we’ll strive to find a permanent venue despite most of the units we’ve looked at have been out of our price range.”
