Bill Sargent Celebrates Receiving Life Membership
Bill Sargent was recently awarded with Life Membership to the British Judo Association and what better way to celebrate than receiving it at your club!
Although at the age of 74 he finds it difficult to find others to compete with the same level/age, he remains very active, competing in National and International events.
In 2016 he competed in the British Masters gaining a Silver Medal only losing to Mitch Agnelli the former World Masters, European Masters and Player of the Year 2015. He has successfully gained his 3rd Dan just recently which is an incredible achievement at his age. He is also an active Coach at Dave Quinn’s United Judo Clubs and practices the full session another night with the seniors, even though he has had two hip operations!
He has coached many players to National level not forgetting his two sons, Danny and Bill Junior, who both were National squad for some 10 years. He is the only judoka his club have ever received a letter about from another International competitor stating his exceptional spirit and incredible attitude to our sport. Bill was voted Masters Player of the Year 2016.
When asked if Bill if could us the names of some events he had entered over his very long spanning judo life, he simply passed us a canvas bag full of medals from around the World!
He is a great motivator and inspiration to everybody young and old.
