The 2019 Commonwealth Judo Championships are coming to the West Midlands!Ā 

Following a official bidding process and a successful meeting with the Commonwealth Judo Association, we are delighted to announce that British Judo has been awarded the 2019 Commonwealth Judo Championships, to be held on 24th – 29th September.

The event will add to the growing list of top-level European and World judo competitions to be hosted in Britain in the 2017-2020 Olympic and Paralympic cycle which has already includes the 2017 IBSA European Championships, the 2018 Veteran European Championships and the 2018Ā  EJU Senior European Open.

With competitions being considered across the following age bands, it promises to be a week-long feast of judo in the Midlands:

  • Pre-Cadet,
  • Cadet,
  • Junior
  • Senior
  • Veteran
  • Visually Impaired
  • Intellectual Disability

ā€œIt promises to be a very big event and we take our obligations very seriously. We prepare scrupulously. We have got a good track record in delivering EJU events over the past 3-4 years and we have a very well trained volunteer work force, which will help us to put on a championship of the required standardā€,Ā Saez promised.

Birmingham will take the helm from Jaipur, India who hosted the 2018 edition of the Games, and will become the 18th host of the competition. The event will provide the perfect preparation for the West Midlands ready for when the Commonwealth Games come to town in 2022.
