With no senior competition taking place this weekend, it is the turn of the junior squad to impress as they look to continue their development at the Bremen Masters Open and the International Thuringia Cup.

This weekend offers the opportunity to compete against some of the best young judoka in the world and provides a stern test for the GB players. The competition will be rounded off with an international standard training camp which will offer the athletes a chance to train alongside the best judoka within their respective weight categories.

International Bremen Masters Open, Germany

A group of five athletes will make the trip over to Bremen for the Masters Open, which attracts a high class field every year.

Jamal Petgrave (-90kg) made British Judo history last year by becoming the first British Champion since Craig Fallon managed the feat back in 2001. Petgrave has since made the step up to senior level competition meaning the likes of Scott Thomson (-60kg), Max Gregory (-90kg), Oliver Barratt (-90kg), Beau Farrance (+90kg) Wesley Greenidge (+100kg) will look to fill the void at the event and come away with a medal.

Thomson and Greenidge are the most senior members of the team and they will be looking to make their mark on the illustrious competition that has seen a number of high profile winners over the years.

Greenidge will be making his first appearance on the mat since the Junior World Championships where he was eliminated in the opening round. He did however enjoy a strong 2017 with victory at the La Coruna Junior European Cup in May and a silver medal at the Coimbra Junior European Cup.

Thomson was eliminated in the second round of the Coimbra Junior European Cup last week so will be hoping to get back to winning ways in Germany.

International Thuringia Cup, Germany

Shelley Ludford (-78kg) and Olivia Piechota (-52kg) will be the sole representatives for GB Judo at the International Thuringia Cup.

Ludford will be making her first appearance since her double British title triumph in Sheffield in December. She scooped both Junior and Senior titles in the -78kg without dropping a single contest throughout the two weekends.

She has enjoyed a solid junior career date with her last medal triumph coming at the La Coruna European Cup in May last year where she scooped bronze.

Piechota has recently moved up a weight category to compete at the -52kgs, following a Cadet career that has seen her competing at -44kg and -48kg. She won bronze at her new weight in her first competition at the Paks Junior European Cup in July 2017.
