British University judoka enjoyed their most successful European Universities Judo Championship campaign as they came away with five medals, including one gold, in Coimbra from 24 – 27 July.

Anglia Ruskin’s Mateja Glusac topped the medal rostrum at +100kg as he got the better of Dennis Gutsche (U. Duisbur-Essen) in the final. Earlier in the day Glusac was too strong for Pedro Silva (U. Lisbon) and Mohamed Ghendir (Grenoble I.T.).

Emma Reid (Coventry U.) bagged silver at -78kg losing out to former Cadet European Championship medallist Paula Kulaga (S.S.U.A.S. Pila) in the final. Fellow Coventry judoka Olivia Piechota came through a strong -52kg category to win bronze.

There were further bronze medals for Vidar Benjamin Skretting of Oxford University and Peter Vincent (U. Hertfordshire) at -90kg and +100kg respectively.
