With a break in senior competition this weekend, the Cadets and Juniors have a chance to take centre stage as they compete in the prestigious International Masters event in Bremen and the International Thuringia Cup over the course of Saturday and Sunday.

A host of Britain’s top cadets and junior judoka will be hoping to continue their blistering start to the season with a number of medals won across all competitions. This weekend offers the opportunity to compete against some of the best young judoka in the world and provides a stern test for the GB players. The weekend will be rounded off with an international standard training camp which will offer the athletes a chance to train alongside the best judoka within their respective weight categories.

In Thuringia, Chelsie Giles (-52kg) will be looking to continue her good form that she has experienced at senior level competition that saw her place fifth in the recent European Open in Sofia. She has proven she’s one of the best in the world following wins in the Paks and Leibnitz Junior European Cups last season followed by an impressive 7th placed finish in the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam.

Chelsie will be joined in Thuringia by Erin Peden (-48kg), Olivia Piechota (-48kg), Molly Harvey (-48kg), Kiera Bateman (-52kg), Olivia Reid (-52kg), Lubjana Piovesana (-63kg), Emily Ritchie (-78kg) and Jessica Richardson (-78kg), all with National and/or Junior European medals to their names.

Elsewhere at the International Masters in Bremen, an expected field of over 1000 registered judoka from across the world including the likes of the Japanese team, Brazilian team and Russian team, sees a tough field of competition for the Cadets.

The British team have great strength in depth and are able to field a team comprising of the likes of Daniel Powell who was the only GB judoka to place (7th) in last year’s competition, Daniel Rabbit (-55kg), Neil Macdonald (-60kg), Eric Ham (-73kg) and Cailin Calder (-100kg) among others.  Wesley Greenidge (+100kg) and Jamal Petgrave (-90kg) will again be in the hunt for medals after winning silver and bronze medals respectively at last weekends Coimbra Junior European Cup.

Competition starts on both days at 0830 UK time (0930 local) with Cadets competing on Saturday and Juniors on Sunday. You will be able to find full results here once the competition has been completed
