A sizeable crowd were treated to a great day’s judo at the 2016 Pre-Cadet and Cadet British Championships at EIS in Sheffield on Saturday 3 December.

Today was the turn of the Pre-Cadet Girls and Cadet Boys with 294 judoka taking to the mat with their eyes set on gold.

The morning session saw the Cadet Boys wow the crowd with big scores and even bigger throws galore. Dragons Judo Academy’s Daniell Rabbitt (-55kg) was particularly impressive with his uchi-mata proving too much for a number of his opponents. He also showed his ability to win in newaza with two wins by armlock and another via hold down.

There were also double golds for South Brent, Joshua Shipp (-42kg) and Adam Vosper (-46kg), and Hibari Kan, Oliver Park (-60kg) and Aaron Miller (-81kg), with all four judoka showing some really good judo, to the delight of their travelling support.

The Pre-Cadet Girls took the tatami in the afternoon and there was no drop in the excitement. There was almost double gold for the Southgate family from Black Dog with Niamh topping the podium at -36kg. However sister Eden lost out to Jasmine Teal of Bishop’s Stortford in the -40kg final.

There was a third gold of the day for South Brent with Cordelia Gregory seeing off the challenge of Elle Mvibudulu (Westcroft) in the -63kg final.
