7th for Reid at Antalya Grand Slam

Emma Reid finished in 7th place on the final day of the IJF Antalya Grand Slam.

Entering the competition seeded 6th,  Reid had an opening round bye before coolly dispatching Sandra Lickun (POL) in Round 2, pinning her opponent for ippon score, to progress to the Quarter-Finals.

Unfortunately for Reid, she was defeated by 3x Grand Slam gold medallist and 2015 World Championship bronze medallist Luise Malzahn (GER) and progressed to the Repechage for a change to fight for bronze.

2x Olympic medallist and former World Champion Audrey Tcheumeo (FRA) stood between Reid and the bronze medal contest. The vast experience of the French fighter showed as she scored a waza-ari in the early stages of the contest transitioning into ne-waza to pin Reid for the mandatory 10-seconds for a second waza-ari score.

Reid finished in 7th place to add to the 5th place finishes she achieved earlier this year at the Paris Grand Slam and Portugal Grand Prix.

Competing alongside Reid in the -78kg category was Natalie Powell. Powell safely progressed through her opening round contest, an ashi-waza for ippon score to defeat Semanur Erdogan (TUR). In Round 2, Powell was unfortunately awarded three shidos against Natascha Ausma (NED) and therefore would take no further part in the competition.

Jamal Petgrave also made it to the second round after defeating Can Guzel (TUR) by waza-ari score in their opening round contest. Like Powell, Petgrave also amassed three shidos in his Round 2 contest against Ivan Felipe Silva Morales (CUB).

There were Round 2 eliminations for our two fighters in the -100kg category as both Max Gregory and Rhys Thompson were defeated by Kostadin Tsvetanov (BUL) and Karl-Richard Frey (GER) respectively.
