At Cherry Judo Club Invitational event on 29 June there was an added surprise for the players, spectators and officials as Dave Horton–Jones 6th Dan arrived to award Dave Lovelace of Boston Judo Club with his 5th Dan and lifetime membership from the British Judo Association.

Dave Lovelace now 70 years of age has been involved in judo for over 55 years and counting.

From competing to coaching and running Boston Judo Club he now takes more of a back seat but is still involved as Chairman. He looks to attend and support the club whilst helping to guide its players and coaches with his many years of experience.

Dave Horton Jones said: “Dave Lovelace was a member of the Midlands Area Team in a time when nearly all the team were full GB Internationals. I was a member of his club from 1979 -1987, he was a fierce fighter and for him Judo is a lifestyle and not just a hobby or sport. It was an honour to present him with his awards.”
