2015 British Open this weekend at The SSE Arena, Wembley
The 2015 British Open is set to take place this weekend at The SSE Arena, Wembley. The event will see players from across the world compete in the European Judo Cup competition as well as a Throw Yourself Into Judo zone and a chance to meet our new mascot Jimmy!
The British Judo Open sees The SSE Arena, Wembley host an exciting weekend of competitive judo. Visitors can watch members of the British Judo Olympic squad in action as they prepare for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
Some of Britain’s top ranking players will be battling on the mat for the title of British Open Champion against players from 19 nations across the world.
Saturday (11th July) could see Britian’s Ashley Mckenzie come up against Italy’s Di Loreto in the -60kg category. The pair met at the 2015 Baku European Games where Ashley came out on top, he will be looking for the same outcome should the pair face each other on Saturday.
Competing on the Sunday (12th July) in the -100kg category, Ben Fletcher could come up against Mateja Glusac. It would be the sixth time Fletcher will face a Serbian competitor. Fletcher has won 80% of his contests against Serbian opponents.
In the -63kg category, Lucy Renshall could come up against Marlies Priesner. Renshall defeated Priesner the last time they met at the Oberwart European Open in February this year.
Gemma Gibbons has faced all three of the potential Belgian and Italian opponents at least once and has won on each occasion. Gibbons will be amongst the competitors in the -78kg category on Sunday (12th July).
The draw will take place on Friday 10th July at 20:30.
