12-Strong Junior Squad to Tackle World’s Finest
GB’s Junior squad will travel to Tajikistan to take on the world’s finest up-and-coming stars at the upcoming Junior World Championships taking place on 2nd-6th October.
Charlie Ayre will be hoping to improve on his seventh-place finish at the Junior European Championships earlier this month as he makes his Junior World Championships debut in the -60kg competition. Ayre will be looking to add a medal to his bronze medal winning performance at the Kaunas Junior European Cup in May.
Lewis Fryer will go again in the competitive -66kg category following a second-round exit at the European Championships. He has shown glimpses of his potential in 2024 with two medal wins across the Skopje and Birmingham Junior European Cups.
Irakli Goginashvili who make his Junior World Championship debut in the -73kg competition having stepped up from the Cadet ranks in 2024. Goginashvili took silver behind Davies at the Birmingham Junior European Cup this year. The Budokwai’s Ben Levy will compete alongside Goginashvili and heads into the competition having won three bronze medals on the tour this year.
Luke Davies will continue his transition up to -81kg competition and will be looking to make his mark in his new weight competition following a first round exit in the European Championships. Davies has taken gold and silver medals at the Birmingham and Kaunas Junior European Cups at -73kg respectively this year. He will join Eryk Neumann in what promises to be an exciting category!
Daniel Ede rounds off the male contingent as he enters the +100kg event.
Summer Shaw will be looking to go one step further at the World Championships after recording GB’s best result from the European Championship as she narrowly missed out on a Bronze medal to finish in fifth spot. Shaw has been in fine form in 2024 with two Gold medals in her previous two competitions from the European Championships.
Charlotte Jenman has seamlessly transitioned up to the -57kg category. The former European Cadet Championship bronze medallist has won silver and bronze medals at the Kaunas and Birmingham Junior European Cups respectively.
Jenman will be joined in the -57kg category by Chloe Link. Link, who stepped up from the Cadet ranks this year, took bronze at the Kaunas Junior European Cup before a 5th place finish in Birmingham.
Holly Devall has had her best season, placing in all of her competitions. The 19-year-old claimed gold at the Kaunas Junior European Cup before taking bronze in Birmingham.
Nicole Wood has made the step up from -70kg as she lines up in the -78kg competition. She has certainly not looked out of place in her weight category though following placings in three of her four events – a highlight of which was a bronze medal at the Skopje Junior European Cup in August.
